In all honesty I didn't do much today. I used today to let my knee heal and only left my room for breakfast, lunch and I just had dinner, each time hobbling down twenty-five marble turning stairs and about 150m down the street for lunch one way, 100m down the street for dinner. To kill time I looked up info on school if the application process goes well but I might have to spend a year at RMC's location at Saint-Jean Quebec to raise my college high-school credits to university level.
Here at my hotel I have no limit on the amount of content I can download wirelessly unlike at home with Rogers and so I've been downloading a lot of movies. At first they were just Vietnam movies I haven't seen which might be a shock to everyone but they're mostly movies with a thirty-second flashback of combat, and 1:29:30 hours of getting use to being back home. Now I'm downloading seasons of TV shows like American Dad, NCIS, The Walking Dead, plus classics I've never gotten around to like Indiana Jones, The "Saw" movies, Kill Bill, etc.
Today I watched "Coming Home" with Jane Fonda and Jon Voight. Before I get into I hate Jane Fonda and haven't seen her act before and I didn't care to. I believe her going to North Vietnam, being used as a puppet for the enemy to use against the US, and her telling US troops to stop fighting these nice people went too far. If you have a problem with the war, you can have an opinion on it and say it as we have that right, but to support the enemy and then come back home to enjoy the same rights that the enemy you support are trying to take away from another country just makes her a hypocrite in my opinion. I hate her and will leave it at that haha.
The plot is Fonda's husband is a US Marine Captain and it's 1968 as the news story of the USMC fighting at Hue is on the TV and he's excited, as he believes he is fulfilling his duty and purpose in life, answering the call of his country. He leaves and Fonda finds comfort in another girl (lets call her Peg) who's boyfriend is leaving and is friends with Fonda's boyfriend, lets call him Bob, Fonda's boyfriend. I don't know the other guy's name as he's not important haha. Peg works in the kitchen of a Veterans Hospital, her younger brother is there as he went to Vietnam and came back with some sort of mental condition requiring him to be hospitalized. They don't really say what it is but he has PTSD for sure. Fonda stops by to see her friend and Jon Voight is a wounded vet without use of his legs. He's on a gurney face down and pushes himself with walking canes. Anyways he crashes into Fonda and his piss bag falls and gets her wet (which I liked haha). Jon's a friggen jerk to her and Fonda wants to volunteer at the hospital to help the wounded. Jon is a complete bastard to her and with time they fall and love. Jon is out of the hospital and has a souped up 60's Mustang modified so he can drive it. He ends up going to a Marine base and chaining the gate shut and to himself after Peg's brother kills himself.
Fonda went on R&R in Hong Kong with her boyfriend, and the war is getting to him, he talks about an Lt. asking him if it's okay to stick VC heads on sticks as it scares the VC. He's also mad because Fonda is working at the hospital as he wants her to sit at home like a house wife and not work. By the way they're married so he's supporting her financially and as you can tell he's old fashioned. Fonda goes home and has sex with Jon and after locking himself to the Marine gate he has people following them taking pictures and placed a bug in Jon's house recording them having sex. It's also pretty long and drawn out for 1978, but Fonda is empowered by her body and uses it. Just hope her dad didn't see that part. So Fonda has sex with another man while her husband is fighting for the freedom of the South Vietnamese people in Vietnam. All I can say is that seems like something she would do...
Bob gets shot in the leg in Vietnam and sent home. He doesn't want to talk about what happened and everyone nags at him so he flips. He goes drinking and meets up with his other buddies and have an all night party and Fonda is mad. Since Bob is home the affair with Jon is at least over with but the FBI or at least the sneaky people following Fonda and Jon tell Bob. Bob saying nothing to Fonda, drops her home and drives to Jons. You assume he's going to flip but just says he knows about it and it's Fonda's decision on what to do. Wait? What do you mean!? She gave him an extra wedding ring before he left so he'd be faithful, and she ends up cheating because she was lonely. I get she was lonely, but then you get with Peg as she's lonely too. You support each other and make it though, that or you break up before your deployed. He married the military and then you married him, so the military is in his life before her, she knew what she was getting into and I'm not making an excuse for her. He should divorce her as how can you be with someone after they cheat on you? Bob tells Jon that he's talked to Fonda already, but he hasn't.
Bob leaves to come home to talk to Fonda, and Jon calls to talk to Fonda about it, and tells Fonda by accident. Bob grabs an AK-47 with bayonet spike, loads it and walks into the house to talk to Fonda, Jon comes in and says he's not the enemy, he's a Marine too and knows how hard it is to come home. Bob keeps saying how he wanted to be a hero and he got shot by walking to the shower with his rifle, he tripped and shot himself in the leg but he's getting an award for it. Bob puts down the gun, Jon talks to a local school, Bob goes for a swim in the ocean and it ends.
It wasn't great but one thing that I liked about it was that it was real vets as the people in the hospital. I forget his name, but the one guy in the hospital did an interview for a documentary series I saw. He was a Marine and talked about what it was like coming home. The sad thing is that it highlights that people coming home flip out and will almost kill their loved ones when most vets came home, had some symptoms of PTSD but didn't involve waving rifles in the faces of loved ones. The ending is weird because Jon has a good speech to the school but leaves Bob naked swimming in the ocean. You don't find out about what happens with Bob and Fonda. Heck after Bob almost kills Fonda, she's not in the rest of the movie which is odd for the star of the movie. To me it seems to be an attempt to act into the hearts of veterans ten years after protesting against them. I think she did apologize but in the '90s that she regretted her comments towards US troops, but not protesting against them or posing in pictures being in a firing position on a Anti-Air gun that shot down hundreds of her own people. I will say Jon Voight was really good in it. He was angry but not insane, and as he got closer to getting out he was playing wheelchair basket ball and active which is important. The death of a friend, Peg's brother got to him and he did lock the Marine base gate because he didn't want to see one more person die because of the war. Heck, Peg's brother was good in it and he was in it for five minutes. He played guitar before he left and now that he's back he sometimes plays. He'll be playing a song then it gets to a certain lyrics and then... then the live in his face... it slowly turns to depression... Then he can't play anymore and gets upset. Needless to say i didn't like Fonda haha.
After that I watched more American Dad which I can now say I love almost as much as Futurama. The one episode you find out Francine, The American Dad(Stan)'s wife was adopted and considers the Asian couple that adopted her as her real parents. They're hardcore in their customs though so everyone ends up using stools, they lower their dinning room table, the mother hands dead ducks in the front window, has clothes lines up all over the living room and is hanging paper towels and tampons so they dry. Nobody is allowed to use forks anymore and Stan keeps trying to kick them out. Then he does what he always does, goes around the main problem trying to make it better for him to live with no matter how horrible it is for his family, but then turns it around and learns a lesson. How to get rid of the parents? He finds Francine's real parents which are loaded but abandoned Francine as they'd have to buy another seat on an airplane they are boarding to France and all the other seats are booked. Instead of cancelling the fight and booking another they leave Francine with a stewardess. Then Stan finds her adoptive parents will and show that shes been cut out of it, as she's not the biological daughter. Francine kicks her own parents out, but a grease fire from the ducks starts and Stan is stuck under a beam from the house. Francine's real parents won't help Stan as it's not covered under their insurance but someone saves him, and it's Francine's adoptive father, a little Asian carrying bulky Stan to safety. He says her real parents are the adoptive ones as they truly love her more than her real parents. Aw...
I went to eat at Zoom Cafe like I always do now, and it got weird. Talked to the one girl that took my order, and the girl served me last night wanted me to pay for a pizza for her, as there's a Pizza Hut Delivery right beside the restaurant. That violates the customer/server relationship. I gave her a tip last night but it doesn't mean I'm Mr. Moneybags and can be buying pizza for everyone who serves me. I told her that I like eating there and she served me well, but I'm not buying her a pizza. I suggested if she's hungry maybe the kitchen staff can make her something. The girl I was talking to doesn't even eat there, she eats before work, so this girl could do that too. After that I tried to avoid the pizza wanting girl, but she kinda butted into the job of my server and cleaned my table and took my plate. She tried to get chatty with me but I shot her down as after the pizza thing I didn't want anything to do with her and figured she just wanted in on my tip. My server I think detected this and she got my bill for me. I went to tip her but she didn't want it and I'll admit I was slightly offended but I assumed it was because of the other girl.
With that I headed here, and here I am. I might watch a movie next, get up at a decent time and hit Dan Sinh Market. I'll wear my boots in case I have to stomp some spider ass. Chris needs a web belt, ammo pouches and an H-harness, all nylon and Sam wants three canteen covers for his LRRP Recon kit. Other then that I'll take it easy on my knee and not sure what else to do. Till then I'll see you later.
